Action Opportunities
Industrial hard rock gold mining is incompatible with our neighborhoods and the recreational areas and forests that Fairbanks residents and visitors cherish. The activity is deeply counter to the best interests of the city, borough, and state.
The lack of clear and consistent information presented to the public makes it our job to inform each other.
As we expand our coalition and develop plans of action, we encourage you to:
- Participate in public comment periods as they arise.
- State your concerns for the record and ask questions, as appropriate, with state agencies and private development entities.
- Share with us what your know and what you learn.
Evergreen Actions
The following actions are always available to you as a way to share your concerns, ask questions, and make suggestions for how to protect Fairbanks' domes and ridges:

- Letter to the editor (under 350 words)
- Community perspective (500-750 words) - send to letters@newsminer.com
- Dig into land status with Alaska Mapper
- Visit https://mapper.dnr.alaska.gov/
- The site has a user guide with multiple base maps and selectable layers, including state mining claims, RS2477 trails, and mineral closing orders.
- Note: the platform is data heavy and not designed for public use.
- Explore development of a Neighborhood Area Plan
- Area plans can be developed in coordination with neighborhood residents and incorporated into the Borough's Comprehensive Plan.
- Find more information in this document we summarized from meetings with Borough planning department staff.
